Why eating well does not mean eating perfectly?
Has it ever happened to you that you eat a piece of cake and then you give up for the day?
If you have ever felt that by eating a pizza, an ice cream or not following "the diet" 100%, you have thrown all your effort down the drain, this article is for you.
Eating well doesn't mean eating perfectly every day. In fact, that idea of perfection is one of the biggest roadblocks when it comes to creating sustainable habits.
1. It's what you do most of the time that counts.
Healthy eating is not defined by a single day. Nor by one meal. Nor by what you do on a weekend.
It builds on what you do on a consistent basis. If your daily choices tend to take care of your body and your health, a one-time overindulgence won't undo all your progress. On the contrary, it can help you maintain mental and emotional balance.
2. Guilt only keeps you from your goals
Many times the problem is not what you eat, but how you feel afterwards. That thought of "since I have eaten badly, I keep eating badly all day" creates a loop of guilt and lack of control that repeats itself.
You don't need to compensate, restrict or punish your body by eating something out of the ordinary. Returning to your routine the next day (or even at the next meal) is more than enough.
3. Eating healthy also includes enjoyment
Health is not only physical. It's also mental, social and emotional. And that means being able to enjoy a meal with friends, a homemade dessert or dinner out without feeling like you've failed.
Eating healthy means having variety, satiety, good habits and also flexibility. Because rigidity is not sustainable, and what can't be maintained, doesn't work.
4. Real examples of equilibrium
A pizza on Friday night doesn't ruin a week where you've eaten veggies, protein and stayed active.
A piece of cake on a birthday does not negate your progress.
A day when you eat differently does not require a "detox diet" the next day.
Everything fits in a balanced diet, if you know how to organize and understand it.
5. How to get back to your routine without stress
You don't need to do anything special. You don't need to fast, train more, or eliminate carbohydrates. Just resume your usual habits as normal.
That ability to return to your structure without drama is what brings you closer to true progress.
